Scan-and-Solve for Rhino

Simulate Early, Simulate Often... In Rhino

My first wishes, based on the first (very positive) contact with this beta:

(Features)

- Gravity: this is my very first wish, the ability to include mass, relative to the material selected, in the calculation of the loads.

- objects as restraints: bolts inside holes, for example, in order to simulate hinges in simple static studies.

- multiple materials/objects: if the condition above is possible we can approach to basic interaction with frequent architectural problems (steel frames combined with glass panels, etc) where the displacement component is an issue.

- objects as loads: suppose that we have a heavy bookshelf, or a milling machine on the floor; we can simulate them with a simple volume that replicates the contact area and move them around, without modifications on the geomtry of the structure (faces to select for load conditions etc)

- wind, as a vectorial load: maybe we've to wait for some fluids support for that

(Interface)

- in View mode, min and max points spotted on geometry (displacement, Von Mises)

- a numerical report showing the actual maximum values (+ and -) expressed in N/mm2 (or other selectable formats, like N/m2, N/cm2 etc); this can be very usefull when working on structures

- the ability to know the actual weight of the objects based on the associated materials (properties page, for ex.)

My 2 cents

Best regards

Putting the "wind" aside, the rest of the features amount to saying that you would like to do analysis not just on a single solid, but on a (static) assembly of solids made from different materials ... though I actually like the way you subdivided into smaller tasks, because they suggest how a user interface may be designed. The good news is that all of these will happen in the near future, probably one feature at a time.
Reprise:

- Deflection with a box for direct input value of magnification; moving along the slider can be very slow with some models so it could be very nice to write the desired scale factor.

- Materials, some of them are not usable for stress test (no Young modulus or Poisson ratio, ex.=Permalloy, Plaster, Wood wet and dry...etc), suggesting that a subdivision in categories of application could be more clear (ex. materials only for thermal, dielectric or magnetic applications, depending on the non-zero values for each coefficient)

- Materials (2): according to UNI EN 10025 - 95 the types of steel to be used in Europe for structural applications are called S235, S275, S355.....S460. The number is the yield stress value in Mpa.
Of course it could be very appreciated to include that steel types to the list :)

- Materials (3): would it be possibile to have at least one material, like steel, that follows the real deformation stages? (reversible elastic-linear elongation, yield stress value, plastic-non linear deformation, ultimate tensile strenght-breakout)

Thank you
Cristian Luca
