Wish : Poor man's non linear ?

Why not make a non-linear calculation by iterating the calculation ?1) Add a fraction of the load (step value is user-defineable)2) Calculate 3) Add next fraction of the load, but on deformed…Continue

Wish : user-definable danger level graph
1 Reply

The ideal danger graph for me is the one found in SolidWork's plug-in "Cosmos Express" which is now called "Simulation Express".The zones where Von Mises Criterion is below the material's Yield…Continue

Behavior in Plastic phase / non-linearity ?

Is the behavior of ductile materials realistically calculated behond it's elastic phase ?Is the calculation linear or non-linear ?Continue

Danger level scale fals in calculation report
3 Replies

The max danger level is always from 0 to 1, regardless the calculated value. In the table under the graph, the max. danger level is properly calculated though.CheersContinue

Bob Johansson replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Restraint wish'
"Displacment constraint would be really helpful. Forcing a  displacment in one directional axis and fixing or freeing movement in the other directions."

"Michael, this is very helpful. I did the above example with very small faces.   Thanks to you and Vadim!   --david"

Michael Freytag replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Restraint wish'
"David, With edge restraints in Version 1.4 of Scan&Solve, rotational restraints about edges is now supported.  If necessary, edges can be added to your model by splitting faces where required, or by incorporating small holes as described…"

Michael Freytag replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Restraint wish'
"This is a possible future addition, probably not "quick", but maybe possible. I have a picture in my head of what you are interested in doing, but there is usually a disconnect between my imagination and someone else's reality.…"

Kristoffer Josefsson replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Restraint wish'
"Today, I came to a situation where i would like to add rotational constraints to a face, ie fix some directions of rotation only. Is this a quick, possible future addition?"

Simon Klopp replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Wish : user-definable danger level graph'
"Hello Oliver! I fully agree with your wish to get a more clear, two colored danger graph! Either the material bears a load or not. Certainly, we have on every material elastically or plastically demormation, but with this rainboy graph, the…"

Vadim Shapiro replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Wish : Poor man's non linear ?'
"SnS does not maintain separate geometric model, which means that we would have to update Rhino model based on calculated displacements from the previous step. But this may or may not be possible, depending on how the geometry is represented -- and…"

Olivier Suire replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Danger level scale fals in calculation report'
"Hi Michael, Still not sure whether this is a bug. If not, I find this way of presenting the "danger level" rather un-informative because there is no way to spot the exact zones which are avove the acceptable level..."

Michael Freytag replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Behavior in Plastic phase / non-linearity ?'
"Olivier, True, the deformation and stress values are not realistic under plastic deformation. Yes, "0" for compressive and/or tensile strength means yield strength is used. For ductile materials, the supported failure criteria are von…"

Olivier Suire replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Behavior in Plastic phase / non-linearity ?'
"So is it true to say that the results (deformation stress level) are not realistic when significant areas of the material are subjected to a Von Mises stress higher than the Yield strength ? Also, I noted that Tensile and compressive strenght are…"

Olivier Suire replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Danger level scale fals in calculation report'
"Michael, it does not make sense to me. If "1" is the limit of the danger level, then the scale should go from 0 (or min. danger level coeff.) to the max. danger level calculated in the model. See attached... Cheers,"

Michael Freytag replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Behavior in Plastic phase / non-linearity ?'
"Olivier, We are doing linear stress. Non-linear behavior is not currently supported. We will probably have it eventually, but not yet. ~Michael"

Michael Freytag replied to Olivier Suire's discussion 'Danger level scale fals in calculation report'
"Olivier, The behavior you describe is by design. Broadly, the danger level is stress/material_strength (by some appropriate metric). Thus, when displaying the danger level, red corresponds to "bad" when the ratio…"
