how much hard drive space?

Wondering if there is a rule of thumb for how much hard drive space is required - maybe by the grid resolution or something?I'm working on an assembly that is maybe 8'(ft) x ~6" x ~12", but it is…Continue

WIP materials library not keeping values

I am working with the BETA and I have input a number of materials, Stainless steels AISI 316L Sheet, Plate, & 317L Sheet & Plate.  The names are quite similar.  I create a new material by…Continue

Large, thin members, Resolution issue?

I am trying to analyze a thin-member waffle structure.  The overall size is approx. 20'x30', but it is made up (initially) of 20ga. steel sheets in a waffle config approx. 16"o.c x & y spacing,…Continue

how much hard drive space?

Wondering if there is a rule of thumb for how much hard drive space is required - maybe by the grid resolution or something?I'm working on an assembly that is maybe 8'(ft) x ~6" x ~12", but it is highly detailed (see image) and in order to get accurate results I have resolution at 440874 elements.  On running the simulation my HD ran out of space about 3 times.  The simulation generated 300+GB of integration_.tmp files and locked up the machine.  I have since moved some files and have 400+GB…See More

WIP materials library not keeping values

I am working with the BETA and I have input a number of materials, Stainless steels AISI 316L Sheet, Plate, & 317L Sheet & Plate.  The names are quite similar.  I create a new material by clicking copy and then rename & adjust the values.  I work in Inches, pounds, etc. & so I change the drop-down at the bottom when I input values.  However, after I close SNSPro (click Done so it saves) then re-open in the same Rhino file, the units of the values I input in inches, pounds, etc.…See More

"Would the newer SNS 2014 have a better chance of it maybe?  It looks like I'd be able to dial in the resolution better, but my calcs will only go as fast as my processor correct? - maybe I'd be better off estimating the structure as a…"

Large, thin members, Resolution issue?

I am trying to analyze a thin-member waffle structure.  The overall size is approx. 20'x30', but it is made up (initially) of 20ga. steel sheets in a waffle config approx. 16"o.c x & y spacing, with a top sheet.  I am running SNS 1.6.1.  is it possible to analyze this structure as a whole given that the members are so thin & so large?  my initial attempt ran about 14 hours but did not get past maybe 60% on "building integration tree".  Running a Dell Precision M6700 with intel's i7's @…See More
