Scan-and-Solve for Rhino

Simulate Early, Simulate Often... In Rhino

DLL Out of Date?

A few users have come across the following error when trying to run Scan&Solve in Rhino:

Unable to load ScanAndSolve.rhp plug-in: Dependent DLL is out of date.

In almost all cases, this is due to Scan&Solve loading an old version of the Intel math library (LIBMMD.DLL) rather than the latest version installed with the full installation of Scan&Solve. The temporary work around involves locating the old library, renaming it, and re-starting Rhino.

The process is as follows:

  • Download and run the Dependency Walker (depends.exe) from this link.
  • In Dependency Walker open the Scan&Solve plug-in: File > Open... [C:\Program Files\Scan&Solve\ScanAndSolve.rhp]

You should get something like the following:

  • Right click on LIBMMD.DLL and click Properties... to bring up the Properties dialog. Click the Version tab.  The latest version should be 11.1.11.2.

  • If you have an earlier version of LIBMMD.DLL installed, it was probably installed with another of your applications and the steps below may be followed.  If the version is up to date, please contact us.
NOTE: The following steps may very well break that other application, so please proceed carefully and take notes to be able to reverse the process.
  • In the Properties dialog, click on the General tab:
  • Make a note of the Location.  Save this information in case another of your applications ends up broken.*
  • Modify the name field from LIBMMD.DLL to LIBMMD.DLL.backup.
  • Click [OK] to save your change.
  • Start Rhino and run Scan&Solve.

*NOTE: If another of your applications ends up broken due to this change, use Windows explorer to browse to the location noted above and rename LIBMMD.DLL.backup to LIBMMD.DLL.  In the meantime, we will be working diligently on a permanent solution.
