Simulate Early, Simulate Often... In Rhino
Multiple load cases solve
I mainly use IDEAS as a FEM.
It works fine with relatively simple structures like a ship hull.
The nice feature in it is that we can easily make macros about anything.
At work we usually solve many different load cases at once. They are input via a macro that we generate in excel. After that, IDEAS has the possibility to create one load case that combine the extreme results of all the load cases into a single one. We only analyse that result which saves us a lot of time.
Any plan to do anything similar in SnS?

What options is there for transferring and updating model attributes in IDEAS?
I think Scan and Solve is fantastic for running an analysis in Rhino to assess and inform a design initially, but there might be a trade off for complexity by pursuing lots of requested features like multiple load cases, combination loadcases etc etc.

I know from my experience so far that it is often necessary to assess several different conditions before accepting to go further with a design. A proper FEM study takes between two weeks and two month depending on the complexity of the element you are trying to assess.
If it is possible to assess, let's say, a douzaine of load cases at once in SnS, then it should be possible to briefly assess several solutions quickly before going forward with a more detailed analysis.
This is my question regarding IDEAS capabilities.
Now, for my daily work, I would love to be able to generate a mesh in Rhino that I could use in IDEAS. Otherwise, I have to generate the mesh by hand, which for a full ship take a good month of modelling.
On top of that, Ideas has a not very handy parametric system. It could be great to have something more 'modern'. However, is there a proper parametric design plug-in for Rhino?

I agree, a proper FEM takes significant time, therefore all the more reason to sharpen the tools needed to conduct these assessments so that instead of spending lots of time generating or manipulating the models, time may be better used for identifying improvements and strategies for better solutions.
I'm not sure exactly how you define as proper parametric plug-ins, but to post some initial thoughts.
Grasshopper (really a generative plug-in perhaps than parametric) can be used to great effect for assessing variation. You'll find a few examples of utilizing this to accelerate and simply model generation on the Geometry Gym blog, using some well know designs (such as the Beijing Water Cube) as examples.
There's two other reasonably new plug-ins for parametric modelling, Rhino Parametrics http://www.rhinoparametrics.com/ and http://www.rhiknowbot.com You might very well know more about them than me, but I thought I'd note them in case you don't know them.
