James, to answer your question,  yes, the current version of Scan&Solve works only with single solids.  Depending on your assumptions,  it may be Ok to treat assembly as a single solid,  but obviously it would only be a coarse approximation of what happens in the assembly,  particularly if the parts can move with respect to each other.    In the latter case,  you may need to simulate sliding and contact -- which is a different type of analysis.     Your second question is a Rhino question. In principle, Rhino should be able to create the union of the touching parts, but in practice the union operation may fail if there are any numerical errors, gaps, etc.   It probably would better if the boundaries interpenetrate, but you would have to try it.   Hope this helps.
