PRODUCT DESIGN STUDIO 2 - 2015 - "SAPIENZA" UNIVERSITY OF ROME

Hello guys,

The prototyping experience for the 14-15 Product design studio 2 students at SAPIENZA University of Rome was focused on conceiving and optimizing the shape of a PLA trivet.

The project was developed according to five stages:

1. Concept driving the selection of the trivet surface: flat, single or double curvature.
2. Scan&Solve simulations with a design load of 200N and dimensions restricted to a 20x20x20 cm bounding box.
3. Shape optimization with respect to the mechanical performance by parametric S&S simulations.
4. Shape optimization with respect to the available FDM technology.
5. Physical rapid prototyping.
